Sleep All Summer
The National & St. Vincent
Weary sun sleep tonight go crashing into the ocean
Cut the line that ties the tide and moon ancient and blue
We take our empty hearts and fill them up with broken things
To hang on humming wire like cheap lamps down a dead end street
Close your weary eyes until the wintertime
And every time we turn away it hits me like a tidal wave
I would change for you but babe that doesn't mean I'm gonna be a better man
Give the ocean what I took from you so one day you could find it in the sand
And hold it in your hands again
Cold ways kill cool lovers
Strange way we use each other
Why wont you fall back in love with me
There ain't no way were gonna find another
The way we sleep all summer
So why wont you fall back in love with me
Combing over Broken Cross I held on you
Haunted by the ghost of something new
Curtains fall fashions fade an endless summer over
Another tide to launch an autumn moon over the dunes
There must be a better way to pull a whole apart
To keep a world from caving in
Another way to while away from you frozen and blue
Close your weary eyes until the wintertime
And every time we turn away it surges like a tidal wave
I could change but babe that doesn't mean I'm ever gonna be a better man
Give the ocean what I took from you so one day you could find it in the sand
And hold it in your hands again
Cold ways kill cool lovers
Strange way we love to suffer
Why wont you fall back in love with me
There ain't no way were gonna find another
The way we sleep all summer
So why wont you fall back in love with me

my favorite song of the week is a cover. the original is by crooked fingers, and it is covered by the national and st. vincent. brilliant mixing of vocals and sad sad sad lyrics. the perfect ballad of a dying relationship.

book 10: blood canticle
if this is how anne rice ends the vampire chronicles, i'm disappointed. i'm not saying that the novel is bad. it's still worth reading especially those who have grown to love lestat and the mayfair family. it's just that lestat deserves a better ending than this.
to those who haven't read interview with the vampire, vampire lestat, queen of the damned, etc., skip this one for now. (it was downhill after memnoch the devil, although blood and gold was okay). with the prices of books nowadays, money is better spent on her earlier vampire chronicle novels. trust me on this.

book 9: let the right one in
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
- Jeremiah 17:9
this sums up what this novel is all about.
it is not just a vampire story.
a classic in the making by john ajvide lindqvist .

until the dream gets broken
Until The Dream Gets Broken
By Trembling Blue Stars
I thought that I could hear it in her voice
Was almost certain something was beginning.
Though we don't talk about it,
Though this should not be happening,
We just keep on tumbling.
Let us dream a while,
Until the dream gets broken.
Dream a little longer.
I know that she can't be mine,
Still I'm loving every minute;
It's like I've always known her
I'm not thinking clearly ?
All I'm seeing is how we fit;
I just love being with her.
We're not thinking anything
Could come of these feelings,
They can't lead anywhere,
And we know,
We're not thinking anything
Could come of these feelings,
We're just not letting go.
And we know we'll have to do so,
But we don't want to yet
Though there's plenty of time for that later.
And we know that we're in trouble,
And we know we'll end up hurt here,
And want to be together.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
trembling blue stars always sings about depression - about breaking up, "infatuation and obsession, longing and lust, rapture and regret". and this allowed the band to be in the scene for 15 long years.
hmmm. why do we listen? the answer is simple.
misery loves company. we all get our heart broken at one point.

i now officially hate inter milan
inter milan won the champions league title last night - their first european cup since 1965.
it was not an easy feat. they had to take out the english champions (chelsea), the spanish champions (barcelona) and the german champions (bayern munich) along the way.
what!!!! my top three favorite teams got clobbered by this mourinho-coached club. grrrrrrr.
italian football has a lot to celebrate now. they are usually criticized as boring because of the premium they put on defense. it looks like they had the last laugh.
i now officially hate inter milan.
(next to manchester united and real madrid, haha)

summer buzz
ang init!
it's the most common facebook status nowadays. yeah. of course. it's the middle of summer and nasa pinas tayo. what do you expect? so stop complaining =p
i'm very guilty of this too. i do whine a lot. especially about the hellish heat. since we don't really have a choice but to deal with it. maybe we should just try to enjoy the last few weeks before the rainy season takes over. i bet you that the rains will cover manila in ondoy-like proportions the next few months. a very hot summer usually means a very bad rainy season. we've already screwed up the environment. this will only get worse. try watching 2012. haha.
anyway, i better get back to why i'm writing this blog entry in the first place. i am concerned about the environment but i don't think i like to talk about global warming this early in the morning.
hot day, cold beer. summer is a thirsty season. so let me share my list of my favorite summer beers that will play a thirst quenching role in this crazy heat. i can assure you that they are perfect when unwinding after a long, hot day, or just lazily lying on the beach getting a tan and a buzz at the same time.
1) corona extra (mexico) - with a slice of lemon of course. everyone have tried corona right? it's light, very easy to drink in a clear see-through bottle. it has summer written all over it.
2) heineken (amsterdam) - with the green bottle and the red star is easily recognizable, even from miles away. haha. serve this refreshing great tasting beer ice-cold.
3) stella artois (belgium) - bittersweet and unique. a must-try.
4) hoegaarden (belgium)- this wheat beer is a perennial summer favorite - a perfect accompaniment to a picnic or barbecue.
5) tsing tao (china) - very drinkable and goes down easily (like water!!!). i like the light floral flavor.
6) titje (belgium) - it possesses a highly refreshing fruity flavor that quenches thirst right away. very pleasant to the palate.
7) bitburger premium pils (germany)- it has a bitter finish, ideal for cooling off on sun-drenched days and taming the heat of spicy food.
8) san miguel light (philippines) - sml can be found everywhere. it's accessible and reliable, just like a friend who you can always count on. hehe. also, the cheapest on the list. the perfect balance of light and right.

bbb - barca's back to back
barcelona fc won this year's la liga's championship in style - blasting valladolid with a 4 - 0 win for a back to back title!
it's good to know that money can't always buy championships.
until next year los blancos.
i smell a three-peat.

why we are poor?
An economics professor at a local college made a statement that
he had never failed a single student before but had once failed
an entire class.
That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one
would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment
in this class on socialism. All grades would be averaged and
everyone would receive the same grade so no one would fail
and no one would receive an A.
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B.
The students who studied hard were upset and the students
who studied little were happy.
As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little
had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided
they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.
The second test average was a D!
No one was happy.
When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F.
The scores never increased as bickering, blame and
name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one
would study for the benefit of anyone else.
All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them
that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the
reward is great, the effort to succeed is great but when
government takes the reward away, no one will try or
want to succeed.
Could not be any simpler than that.
What a profound short little paragraph that says it all
"You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the
wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without
working for, another person must work for without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the
government does not first take from somebody else.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to
work because the other half is going to take care of them,
and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good
to work because somebody else is going to get what they
work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation.
You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."
----------------------------------------------------------------------
this was forwarded to me by my dad. he finally knows how to use email and the internet. haha. he even has facebook. i'm proud you.
anyway, the article is very timely even though our country is not a socialist state. we are poor becoz more than half of the people think that it's the govenment's job to take care of them.
to the newly elected leaders who promised that they will solve poverty, i wish you good luck.

book 8: harry potter and the deathly hallows
borrowed this book from a friend two years ago. and i started reading it just recently. it only goes to show that i was not too excited about it.
i was never a harry potter fan. i'm just a slave of pop culture. ten years from now or maybe even earlier, the harry potter series will be considered as classics - required reading in school perhaps. my kid, my inaanaks, nieces or nephews will definitely be reading this stuff for book reports, and i should have at least some knowledge about it. anyway, i think that hp7 is the best book of the series. the ending was kind of lame though. hmmm. maybe i better shut up. i don't want to start bashing harry potter. i can go on for hours.
i started reading the series just because everyone was reading it. but i don't think that it was a complete waste of time though. it was useful for coffee break small talks back then. people were just so crazy about it. it can fill in awkward quiet moments or lighten up boring conversations.
i continued reading coz i need to find out the ending. what's the point of starting if you don't get to see how it ends? we all need to know, no matter how it sucks.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
allow me to be senti for a bit. wait. let me grab a bottle of beer in the ref...
cheers to endings, to goodbyes, to closing cycles! happy, disastrous, depressing, or bittersweet... it doesn't matter. we survived. long enough to experience them.
cheers!

dick's post election statement
I would like to congratulate Sen. Aquino for his spectacular victory. I call upon this nation to unite and support him.
I would like to thank everyone who supported me especially my volunteers and those who gave up their limited resources as a manifestation of trust in my brand of leadership and track record.
I ran a very truthful, straightforward and candid campaign and thought we could run on the basis of our platform, track record and volunteerism.
I would like to congratulate all the winners and pray that they serve our country well.
We accept the will of the people.
Today, we have a victory for democracy with the successful exercise of our first nationwide automated election despite naysayers and doubters.
The fight for this country goes beyond this day. Let us forge on in building a Bagumbayan for our people.
http://gordonbayani.com/2010/05/11/dick-gordons-post-election-statement/
---------------------------------------------------------------------
- to all dickheads (or my friends who voted for gordon), let's celebrate the failure of election tomorrow night at ftr around 9pm. beer is on me. as promised.
- so many bad news today - lucy torres, christopher de leon, manny pacquiao, tito sotto, binay, bong revilla, jinggoy, lito lapid, erap as runner up, the partylist, etc. when will we learn? the filipino people are immature. we forget easily. we're doomed.
- what makes a right vote? the majority vote? hmmmm. i don't know... i don't care anymore.
- received a forwarded text message from a friend. cracked me up
"isinama ko name mo sa party list ng 'lambot 0-10', ha. hope you'll support us. we're against the failure of erection"

Today, we have a victory for democracy with the successful exercise of our first nationwide automated election despite naysayers and doubters.
The fight for this country goes beyond this day. Let us forge on in building a Bagumbayan for our people.

- received a forwarded text message from a friend. cracked me up
"isinama ko name mo sa party list ng 'lambot 0-10', ha. hope you'll support us. we're against the failure of erection"

chelsea clinches premiere league title
chelsea fc wrapped up the title in style with a 8-0 win over wigan athletic. drogba was also awarded with the golden boot award. sorry rooney. better luck next year.
it was an exciting season for chelsea fc. a close one. i'm happy that they've finally made it.
let's go for both the premiere league and champions league title next year. i believe it can be done.

good times
my friend dragged me to paragon bldg to catch this morning’s episode of gtwm. i said yes for two reasons – grace lee’s twin peaks and angelicopter’s pretty face. haha. anyway, the trike trip was worth it coz they were giving away 5-10-10 shirts from spoofs unlimited, and noelle cassandra was around. there’s no doubt that noelle cassandra is very talented. i just don’t get it why she does covers most of the time. she should stick with original materials (e.g. amazing). she has the potential to really stand out and make a name for herself. and she won’t be able to do that by singing david cook or sarah m covers.
we don’t need another mymp. we are in dire need of fresh faces with original materials – something they can call their own, and not borrowed.
enough with the covers.

i visited the museum of sex when i was in new york around 2004 (or maybe 2005). if you’re in new york and got a couple of hours to spare, why don't you check MOS out?

labor day weekend - day 2
slow sunday. woke up around 11am. drove to greenbelt to watch the mosley-mayweather fight at nsg. it turned out to be a boring fight. yeah. it was technical, but we wanted a "terrific" fight. i was impressed by mayweather's performance though. pacman will have difficulty with floyd's style. i can't wait for the fight to happen. pacman, here's your chance to be the world's best fighter ever. go for it. beer and pizza = good lunch. found a pair of yellow adidas football socks at adidas gbelt. of course i bought it. went back to the condo. read hp 7 and then slept. woke up at 5pm. back at gbelt for ironman 2 with brian and jp. it was entertaining but not as good as part 1. i would pick kick-ass over ironman2. dinner at recipe. best gising-gising in the metro. drove my bros home. then went to uncle moe's julio vargas for drinks with some friends. three bottles to be exact. good buzz. got an invitation to drop by bugsys but i was too tired. i'm now home. time to retire. good night.
