my favorite milfs

i had the chance to watch american pie again the other day, and i still find it hilarious. who could forget the pie scene?!!? haha. i actually stopped eating apple pies since then. kidding.

one of legacy that the movie american pie left us is the bringing into life the word milf. and as my tribute to one of the funniest movies of all time, let me introduce to you the list of my favorite milfs.

1) salma hayek - i can't help not still associate salma hayek with the movie desperado. i think she was 29 then. now she's 44 and still smokin' hot.

2) heidi klum - 4 kids! one with her ex-husband and 3 with seal. i can't really blame seal. i'm expecting more babies in the next 5 years. haha.

3) kate beckinsale - hot mom plus an english accent. hmmm...

4) monica belucci - she's over 45 i think, but she could still pass for someone in her 30s. we have to thank the wachowski brothers for casting her in the matrix reloaded. we all know that this 2003 film is responsible for launching her into mainstream.

5) halle berry - at 41, halle berry still has one of the best bods out there. she's still a perennial top 100 hottie in any men's mag. she even bagged the sexiest woman of 2008 title of esquire mag.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

milfs may be older but look younger and are more experienced. i guess this is their appeal. they are like wine. they get better with age.

bier market @ king street

i saved the best for last. i spent my last night in toronto drinking with larryboy at bier market king street. with over 100 brands of beer from over 24 countries, it's a better version of manila's famous beer paradise at polaris street makati. the mind-blowing beer selection and the sophisticated yet laid back ambience are the reasons why this place is packed on friday and sat nights.

i got the mix und match sampler - a sampling of 6 different flavours, textures, and types of beer. 7 oz per glass. i ended the night with just the "right amount" of buzz (typsy but not quite). i promised myself not to get drunk since i still had to pack. and i'm already 31 years old so im expected to drink responsibly. haha.

the mix und match sampler
stiegl radler
klb raspberry wheat ale
de koninck amber ale
fruli strawberry wheat ale
delirium tremens ale
leffe brune abbey ale

http://www.thebiermarkt.com/

cheers to good times. i'll definitely miss toronto and all the beer it has to offer.

12th out of 14

my first fantasy basketball head to head experience is a disaster. at one point i was in last place and i now end the season 12th out of 14. crap. hoping to perform better next year.

my line-up

jrue holiday
jamal crawford
beno udrih
shane battier
nene hilario
andrea bargnani
amare stoudemire
richard jefferson
serge ibaka
danny granger

my w-l-t stat is 130-179-6. horrible right? and i only had 8 moves the entire season. i guess this is the reason why i turned out to be a cellar dweller.

looking forward to basketbulan 2k11...

notes on my last week

- last friday night was unforgettable. sarah mcmachlan was awesome. she's actually very chatty. good job sarah for a very intimate and "personal" concert. also, i noticed that massey hall has excellent acoustics. great venue.

- i was able to squeeze in the roger centre tour friday afternoon. call it time management. haha.

- saturday was tiring. long day. started the day at the wizard world comic con at the direct energy centre. (the world will be dominated by geeks in a few years). decided to walk (using my gps) home after lunch and accidentally came across fort york. i was able to take some good pictures. i can now say that i did the scenic route. haha. also passed by winners store to look out for good bargains. for sat night, i visited a family friend somewhere at thorncliffe drive for dinner. pinoy food galore again!

- sunday was also a long day. we headed to canada one outlet for some shopping. then visited a couple of wineries - peller estates and jackson triggs. for 5 bucks, the jackson triggs tour was a good deal. you get a one hour tour, lots of free wine tasting, and a 5 dollar off on any bottle purchase.

- arrived at niagra around 4pm and had a very late lunch at planet hollywood. maybe linner is more apt (lunch and dinner combined). hehe. niagra falls is gorgeous during winter. i should have come here at january where the falls and river are almost frozen solid.

- lunch at dazzling, king street last thursday. thanks tita for the treat.

- despedida thing with the team at puck n' wings last night. i liked the dragon and also the curry wings.

- last week is hell week. so much stuff to do. work. shop. pack. party. haha.

azkals vs bangladesh

http://www.azkals.info/2011/03/phl-azkals-vs-bangladesh-free-live.html

for twitter updates of the game, check the link i posted.

pwede ng pagtiyagan since i couldn't find a decent live streaming site. so far, the philippine is doing really well. 2 - 0.

these dogs can actually bite. go azkals!

0-0

i'm not actually disappointed with the draw with palestine. palestine is a bigger, more athletic, and skilled team than the azkals. we were even lucky to get out of the match with a draw. we have to actually thank the goal post for a couple of saves. hehe.

good luck to the azkals tonight! kaya natin yan. my forecast is that we will conquer bangladesh 2 - 0.

azkals' 15 minutes of fame is not yet over. trust me.

book 7: good omens

my first encounter with good omens was via audio book. i wasn't able to finish it. i usually fall asleep within 15 minutes. maybe i'm just not the listening type. haha.
good thing my friend sent me a copy of the ebook a week ago perhaps. thanks beng. i owe you coffee for this.

good omens is a collaboration between neil gaiman and terry pratchett. and it's a good one. their style compliment each other. if you're looking for an intelligent yet funny read, go grab this one.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i hope they make a movie out of this book. a very entertaining cast of characters...

book 6: sputnik sweetheart

this is a typical murakami book where the sense of isolation is apparent all throughout. loneliness breaks your spirit and leave you feeling like an empty shell. this short novel focuses on that sense of loss that we feel when we discover that love is fleeting and realize that the closeness we share with someone today will soon fade and may never be recaptured.

this is a good book for people new to murakami. it's a lot easier to digest than most of his stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the day that i started reading sputnik sweetheart was the same fateful day of the 8.9 earthquake.

book 5: choke

choke is a bit better than lullaby. it's cutting-edge and a page-turner. finished the book in three days. this book confirms that i'm addicted to chuck palahniuk. he's maybe in my top five now.

open up and get into the world of victor mancini.

si swimsuit 2011

it's now out!!! i hope most you guys have seen this. this should be required viewing. haha.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2011_swimsuit/models/

i think this year is a lot better than last year. better pictures and best set of rookies in years. my favorites by rank. hehe.

1) kate upton - a sexier version of mandy moore. i'm in love. haha. the rookie of the year!

2) jessica gomes - it seems like she gained a bit of weight but i still love her. i just realized that she looks like someone i know. hmmm.

3) genevieve morton - a cutie with everything in the right places. it's weird that i didn't notice her in last year's issue. 2010 was her rookie year. time to check the archives. haha.

4) esti ginzburg - i've read somewhere that this hottie made her acting debut last year in joel schumacher's film twelve. i better get hold of it asap. 2011 is her 3rd straight year in si. looking forward to still seeing her next year.

5) irina shayk - the choice for the fifth spot was a difficult one. it was a toss up between brooklyn decker and irina. but i think irina deserves this spot more coz she's the face (or body maybe is more apt) of si this year. good choice by the si team.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

enjoy guys! take it easy. haha.

notes on my eighth week

- last sat was kinda boring. i just spent saturday afternoon at the fairview mall (don milsl station). the highlight of my day was meeting roger ellis. for more info about him, check my blog post last sunday.

- picked up my tickets for the sarah mclachlan concert before heading back to the hotel

- thank you larryboy for the fun night at the drake underground and 5th social club. toronto night life is not bad at all.

- sunday was very canadian. we did the maple syrup tour at sugarbush. best pancakes ever (or maybe i'm exaggerating). we also went to another maple syrup place but i can't remember the name. haha.

- ended my sunday with a bit of shopping at costco. guess what, i was able to get the nuvi 265wt gps for only 125 bucks. i've always wanted to get one. i just find it too expensive. 125 bucks is not bad at all.

- celebrated st patrick's day at elephant & castle (@ king st). since toronto has a big irish community, st patrick's is a huge celebration. lots of drunk people walking around the city that night. good times.

- while walking around the downtown neighborhood, i accidentally came across the lcbo at spadino. it's beer heaven. i'm guessing at least around 50 varieties are available. needless to say that i did some beer shopping - kingfisher, hobgoblin (wychwood brewery), muskoka dark, waterloo dark, and innis & gunn.

- lately, quiznos, mr sub, and subway have been my staple dinner. getting sick of it actually. need to look for alternatives. i really need to learn how to cook, especially pinoy food.

happy st patrick's day!

it's st. patrick's day!

i celebrated it of course with two pints of european beer at elephant and castle pub (@ king st. west). i was actually craving for more but unfortunately i have to work tonight. i had fuller's london pride and kronenbourg 1664. london pride is fulller's flagship beer. london pride is a smooth and astonishingly complex beer with a distinctive malty base complemented by a rich balance of well-developed hop flavors. and kronenbourg is a french lager that goes down easily with a fine bitter finish. both were good shit. highly recommended.

the place was packed as expected. it's st. patrick's day. everyone should be out and drinking! too bad i'm a pathetic loser who have to work all night. booooooo.

got to go. back to corporate slave mode.

cmw @ drake underground

delayed post. supposedly posted last sunday. forgot to publish this.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

last night was fun. we went to the canadian music week festivities at the drake hotel. great bands. awesome music from fred penner, wool on wolves, and carmen townsend. the indie scene in canada is a lot bigger than i thought.

last day today of cmw. try to catch some shows. it's not yet too late. here's the complete schedule.

http://canadianmusicfest.com/schedule/

--------------------------------------------------------------------

i was able to get hold of wool on wolves latest album for 10 bucks. i'm actually listening to them right now.

i won't be surprised if they will hit mainstream someday. i wish them luck.

try this out

my friend recommended this site

http://iwl.me/

that "analyzes your word choice and writing style and compares them with those of the famous writers". i picked 10 of my blog posts for analysis and you can find below the results.

dan brown - 2
chuck palahniuk - 2
jk rowlng
hp lovecraft
cory doctorow
david foster wallace
ursula k. le guin
margaret atwood

out of the 8 authors, i think i only know and read three - dan brown, chuck palahniuk, and jk rowling. for the rest, i have to do some research. fun stuff.

book 4: how does aspirin find a headache?

i love this book. this makes me a certified geek.

i got this book from chapters at richmond st on sale for only 2.50 dollars! good deal huh? i should check out the other imponderables book by david feldman.

it's the perfect toilet companion. i feel smarter every time i take a crap. haha.

here are some nagging questions that were answered by this book.

why doesn't glue get stuck in the bottle?
why don't we ever see cockroaches in our usually crumb-filled cars?
why is there a worm on the bottom of some tequilla bottles?
do fish pee?
can one spider get caught in the web of another spider? would it be able to navigatewith the skill of the spinner?

and my favorite

what exactly, is the mcdonald's character "the grimace" supposed to be?

amazing huh?

roger ellis

i went to the fairview mall last saturday afternoon to do some window shopping, since i desperately needed to get out of the hotel room (cabin fever looming! haha). it was a good decision on my part coz i happen to meet roger ellis, a 60 something subway musician at the don mills station. he's a soft-spoken but very talented guy who loves the beatles and simon & garfunkel, which are also my favorites. i got two of his cds as a souvenir - post card and lullaby in blue.

here's the link to his blog site

http://rogerellis.blogspot.com/

and more info about this great guy.

http://www.geocities.ws/rogerellismusic/re_reviews_01.html

--------------------------------------------------------------------

please support our subway musicians... be generous.

2 - 1

disappointing loss by team azkals. we started the game on fire with phil younghusband scoring in the 3rd minute. but mongolia equalized at the 22nd minute then scored again before the first half ended.

i wonder what happened... did the sub-zero temperature bother the team that much? did the absence of key players neil, de jong, and gier softened our usual impenetrable defense? i need to watch the game before making any conclusions. i hope i can find a copy of the game somewhere.

sarah mclachlan

http://www.sarahmclachlan.com/us/event/2011/03/17/massey-hall

guess what... i'm watching the sarah mclachlan concert on friday at the massey hall.

she is the quintessential canadian artist.

i better get familiarized with her latest album laws of illusion - her first studio album of new material in 7 years.

notes on my seventh week

- woke up around 10 last sat, had a quick breakfast and decided to hit the bed again since it was raining... woke up at 2pm, looked outside the window, and it was still raining!!! i didn't want to waste the day so i decided to leave the hotel and go shopping at bloor-yorkville. bloor-yorkville is the michigan avenue (chicago) of toronto. it is considered as the epicentre of toronto's high-fashion scene, weaving culture, cuisine, fashion , and film together into one vibrant midtown neighbourhood. i would have enjoyed it better it if was not raining but at least temperature was around 7 degrees. so not bad at all. i was able to buy some stuff at gap and nike. also i had late lunch at lettieri espresso bar and café (at cumberland st). it's a european style cafe that serves great smoked salmon with cream cheese sandwich and dark roast coffee.

- after bloor-yorkville, i picked up my most expensive purchase so far at bestbuy dundas. my new toy is a white 15.5 sony vaio laptop. i do i got a good deal. or maybe i'm rationalizing. haha. i'm a sucker for bargain items.

- i didn't want to spend saturday night in my hotel room so i finally got to watch second city's 10:30pm "this party is a riot" show at mercer street. it's just a 5 minute walk.

- it was raining the whole day and night and around 1230am, on my way home from the show, it started snowing hard. weird. just as i thought that winter is over, it bites me hard in the ass. haha.

- sunday, i got invited to a pinoy gathering. kakaiba talaga ang pinoy hospitality. bagnet, kare-kare, laing, fried tilapia, sapin-sapin, puto, kutsinta, etc. overflowing food!!!

- heard mass at st michael on ash wednesday. i almost forgot about it. good thing my officemate mentioned it while we were chatting. it's hard to be a catholic in a non-catholic nation. lent na pala. i'm still thinking of what to give up for lent. coffee? softdrinks? o maybe beer?

song of the week - use somebody

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5o8L-Or0O4&feature=relmfu

use somebody' (kings of leon acoustic cover)
pixie lott

i've been roaming around, i was looking down at all I see
painted faces fill the places i can't reach
you know that I could use somebody
you know that I could use somebody

someone like you and all you know and how you speak
countless lovers under cover of the street
you know that I could use somebody
you know that I could use somebody
someone like you

off in the night while you live it up i'm off to sleep
waging wars to shake the poet and the beat
i hope it's gonna make you notice
i hope it's gonna make you notice

someone like me, someone like me
someone like me, somebody

i'm ready now, i'm ready now
i'm ready now, i'm ready now
i'm ready now, i'm ready now
i'm ready now

someone like you, somebody
someone like you, somebody
someone like you, somebody

i've been roaming around, i was looking down at all i see

----------------------------------------------------------------------

it's rare to see great covers nowadays. hope you guys enjoyed this.

i could use someone like pixie lott =)

by the way, also check out paramore's cover of this song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pd3HKFdi_DQ&feature=related

i could also use someone like hailey williams. haha.

notes on my sixth week

- partied friday night with officemates at pravda and foundation room. i got to try tyskie, a polish beer. i'm not that impressed though. forgettable beer.

- saturday was fun. i finally got to go to tiff to check out the tim burton exhibit. there's also the mary pickford exhibition at the 4th floor.

- i had dinner and drinks with college friends at the 3 brewers. i did try almost everything on their beer menu - white, blonde, amber, and brown. good shit.

- i had a relaxing sunday stroll at the harbourfront. then i had late lunch at mr souvlaki at queen quay's terminal. worst wanton soup ever. piece of crap.

- window shopping at mountain equipment coop was fun. i could spend a day there.

http://www.mec.ca/Main/home.jsp?&google=mountain%20equipment%20coop&gclid=CJTbovLuu6cCFYvsKgodMSrBAQ

- my first raptors game live last tuesday night. carderon was awesome and cp3 failed to impress. raptors will be a powerhouse in two years if the team remain intact.

- billy elliott was better than expected. i should try to watch another musical or play while i'm still here. it's cheaper than going to new york.

second city

if u like saturday night live humor, you better check out second city. they have theatres in three cities - toronto, chicago, and la. this comedy group has a lot of history. this is also where mike myers, dan akroyd, tina fey, eugene levy, and my favorite steve carrell started.

the show last night was appropriately titled 'this party's a riot!'

i was laughing my ass off all night!

billy elliott

http://www.mirvish.com/shows/billyelliot

a very entertaining musical with more focus on dancing than singing. if you're bringing a date to watch billy elliott, you better bring a hanky for it is a certified tear-jerker. it's also a great date movie coz it's almost 4-hours long! you get to spend a lot of time with your pretty date, and you can offer your shoulder for her to cry on. hahaha. labo ko. i'm just sleepy. good night.

btw, it's not a good idea to watch musicals/plays alone. it's kinda depressing coz you see couples all around. o well... as if i have a choice...

canada is one cold place.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

billy elliott officially opened last march 1. check show schedule below. ticket prices start at 45 dollars.

performance schedule:
mon, wed, thurs, fri, sat - 7:30pm
tue performances are at 7pm
wednesday, saturday & sunday 1:30pm

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

i need to see some SKIN!!! everyone's covered from head to toe. i officially hate winter. haha.

raptors vs hornets live!

last night was my first live raptors game. air canada centre was just half-full but i'm not surprised. with their daunting win-lose record, they lucky to even have fans watching. the future looks bright though for this young team.

the highlight of the night for me was calderon. he had a season-high 22 points and 16 assists. it was his 12th double-double this season. i now consider him as one of my favorite pointguards. too bad he's not in my yahoo sports fantasy team. demar derozan was also impressive, contributing 17 points and completing a number of amazing plays.

surprisingly, toronto raptors beat the new orleans hornets 96-90 for just their fourth win in 24 games. buti nalang. i left work early for this and definitely deserve to see a win. i do hope to get to watch another game live before i go back.

song of the week - big waves

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMRJmNxYK5Q

big wave
by jenny & johnny

living your life in the gray
is the new american way
we're spending what we haven't made

and we save our money in good faith
and we work hard for our living wage
but still the banks gotta break

'cause the dream's a lie
and the snake, it bit you
when you were awake
and the books all fried
you are bankrupting
because all the loans you take

big wave, do do do
big wave, do do do
big wave
it's going to hit you with a big wave

i can't sleep these days
and my blues, they won't go away
so there are these little pills i been takin'
and my doctor, she says that they're safe
but I been sleepwalking down to the lake
and wakin' up in the water

and the feeling's a lie
but the snake, it bit me
when I wasn't awake
and the scripts, they lie
i have been poisoned from
all the things I take

big wave, do do do
big wave, do do do
big wave
it's gonna hit me with a big wave
big wave, do do do
big wave, do do do
big wave
it's gonna hit you with a big wave

i know you feel deprived
(you don't trust me)
all of us still alive
(you never touch me)
it's really just that I don't feel
iike it much these days

and my love's a lie
'cause the snake, he visits me
when you are away
and your dreams don't lie
i have been corrupted
'cause all the lovers I take

big wave, do do do
big wave, do do do
big wave
you're gonna hit me with a big wave
big wave, do do do
big wave, do do do
big wave
it's gonna hit you with a big wave

big wave, da da da
big wave, do do do
big wave
it's gonna hit you with a big wave

one of the reasons i love travelling is that i get to learn about new music. i guess this track will be soundtrack of this long exhausting trip.

this song hits me to the core for some reason... maybe because i live it.
