Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for at the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - -
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.
"The Road Not Taken”
by Robert Frost
i'm not really into poetry. maybe because i suck at it. haha. but anyway, i came across this beautiful piece while doing research for my literature class back in college. i was drawn into it for some reason.
i remember this conversation i had with beng via yahoo msgr a long time ago. she said that this piece reminds her of how neil gaiman described this character named destiny in the sandman series. he holds his secrets. he never tells what is ahead… and his garden is full of mazes. in his garden, when you look ahead there's only darkness and uncertainty... when you look back the maze is gone, it only shows one path, the path you chose to take.
not knowing where the path leads or what the path is like further on... it is not hard to regret something with unknown results. that’s why some people end up saying "sayang, if i chose differently SIGURO iba ang buhay ko ngayon". but it is still uncertain right? the life you have now can actually be the better one.
you got it right beng.
