book 2: norwegian wood

norwegian wood is an easy read compared to most murakami novels. it actually reminds me of SOUTH OF THE BORDER, WEST OF THE SUN. it is basically a sad love story... and one of the rare kinds that is successful in striking the right balance between being affecting without being too sappy. it tackles universal themes of love, loss, and finding one's place in the world. these are very common themes right? but trust me... murakami writes like no one else. upon reading, you feel loneliness slowly seeping into your skin, reminding how your solitary existence sucks big time.

love is still a wonderful thing even if it is unfathomable.

i think i'm in love with midori (she's now one of murakami's most memorable characters for me). she actually reminds of someone i know. haha. two books down. ten to go.
