top 5 hottest female singers

singers supposedly entertain our ears, but i think it's better if they entertain our eyes as well. admit it, we all want stare at a hot chick when listening to music.

my top 5 hottest female singers

1) katy perry - cocktease.

2) hayley williams - hottest redhead out there.

3) avril lavigne - the smokey eyes and "i don't care" attitude are still sexy

4) taylor swift - someone you want to bring home and introduce to your mom.

5) mariah carey - the oldest in the list but she still has it.

honorable mention: fergie of black eyed peas

2010 has been a wonderful year for katy, hayley, and taylor swift. multiple platinum albums, sold-out concerts, and grammy awards/nominations. they are at the top of their game right now. for avril and mariah, i'm sure that they are just lurking in the background, preparing to surprise us sooner than we think.

looking forward to more eye-candies in the music scene this 2011. haha.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

taylor swift will be coming to manila this february. too bad the concert is already sold out except for the bleachers. bummer.

book 20: lullaby

lullaby is a dark entertaining chuck palahniuk novel with lots of twisted humor. it's actually an easy read but it has a lot to say if you dig deeper.

my last book of the year didn't disappoint.

golf 101

just finished my 5th day of golf lessons. golf is a frustrating sport. i still suck big time. i had a couple of 120 yard shots though. tsamba.

some helpful tips for beginners. hope this improves your swing.

1) take time to prepare ur shot. proper form/stance, distance from the ball, club grip, etc.

2) focus. focus. focus.

3) keep your head still and always keep your eyes on the ball.

4) maintain good balance. put your weight on your heels. it helps.

5) always follow through your shot. remember to complete your swing with proper form.

i still have 6 sessions left. if i can only shoot 5 straight 120 "yarder" with a 7 iron, i'd be the happiest man alive. haha. wish me luck.

book 19: after the quake

i consider this one of the most depressing works of murakami.

there are things that happen in life that forever changes us... e.g. death, betrayal, failure of a relationship. and each of us deal with these things differently, in our own little ways. but it doesn't change the fact that we are still haunted by it. as the cliche goes, the past determines how we live the present and see the future.

after the quake is an exploration of the human psyche when dealt with life changing events. terrified, lonely, and empty. most of us are.

book 18: hardboiled & hard luck

i've been hearing a lot about banana yoshimoto since i was in college, but i never got to read any of her stuff. anyway... about three weeks ago, my friend found out that i'm a big fan of murakami so she lent me banana yoshimoto's hardboiled & hard luck. she assured me that if i like murakami, i would like yoshimoto as well.

and she was absolutely right. yoshimoto's writing style reminds me of murakami. it's a bit lightweight but the themes and tone are somewhat similar. their works take on ordinary situation and then twists it into something extraordinary, oftentimes bordering on the weird and absurd. but yoshimoto i think is easier to digest. if murakami novels are dementors - suck the life out of you. yoshimoto's work is different - hints of optimism and possibility of redemption are apparent.

thanks to my friend d for introducing me to banana yoshimoto.

you guys will surely hear more about this author from me.

the rise of philippine football

the loss to indonesia was nothing to be ashamed of. the azkals has put football in the philippine map. my dad, uncles, and titas who never watch football were glued to the tv set last thursday and sunday night, cheering for the mighty underdogs. for the first time, the philippine team jerseys were selling like pancakes, and the team was the topic of office pantry conversations. amazing right? the azkals has certainly revived football in the country.

looking forward to 2011 where the azkals will see action in three tournaments including the qualifying tournament for the 2014 world cup in brazil.

these underdogs can bite...

hangover

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word “Germany”? Mercedes Benz, BMW, or beer? Or maybe Heidi Klum perhaps.

One of the perks of managing the KT Workstream is that you get to travel once in awhile. If you‟re lucky, you get to dance samba with the beautiful people of Brazil, try Kimchi in Korea, or shop for Murano glass in Italy. But if you’re really lucky, you get to fly to Germany and get to taste the best beers in the world.

Germany has around 1,300 breweries. Philippines, I think, has less than 10. And these Ger-man breweries adhere to the reinheitsgebot or “purity order” dating from 1516, which man-dates that the only al-lowed ingredients of beer are water, hops, and barley-malt. Ger-mans do take their beer seriously. Only real beer should be served. No excuses. Germany also ranks 3rd in per capita consumption of beer, only behind the Czechs and Irish. Ger-mans, despite being stereotyped as stiff and very serious, know how to party. I only stayed in Germany for six weeks. But I went home with a se-verely damaged liver. Kidding. I went back to Manila with a wealth of knowledge and experi-ence in managing KT, and of course a noticeable beer belly.

Some of my favorites. I highly recommended them.

Bitburger Premium Pils – It has a bitter finish. Ideal for cooling off on sun-drenched days and taming the heat of spicy food.

Konig Ludwig - a Ba-varian beer, safe choice for hefeweizen. It‟s full-bodied with complex taste, and characterized by strong banana flavor.

Paulaner Hefeweizen – Paulaner is proudly from the beer-guzzling capital of the world, Munich. This beer is the
epitome of Hefeweizen.

Spaten Optimator – a classic German dark beer. Full bodied with a deep dark color and rich roasted malt flavor. It has a slightly higher alcohol content that most beer, 7.2%, which is actually a good thing for some, including me.

Krombacher – If you like San Miguel Beer Pale Pilsner, you will love this. Brewed in the small town of Krom-bach, this German beer brand is one of the top sellers throughout Ger-many

Beck’s – probably the most recognized German beer. This world-famous beer is a favor-ite of many because of its balanced flavor and dry and crisp finish.

Work was tough during those six weeks. But I didn’t mind it that much because there’s always a bottle of first-rate German beer waiting for me at my apartment (I would’ve preferred Heidi Klum over a bottle of beer though).

Cheers!

Traveling A-Z: Zamboanga
By VINCE G. LOPEZ

The colorful flowers around the province define the beauty of the province. More popularly known as the city of flowers, Zamboanga is one of the biggest provinces of the Philippines.

A charming and colorful culture welcomes the tourist as they arrive into the province eagerly awaiting a wonderful adventure in the Mindanao region. Known for its diversity of people and culture, Zamboanga ranks as the sixth most populous city in the country but is considerably not overpopulated as it is also the third largest province in Philippines.

Being one of the most populated provinces in the Philippines, Zamboanga has become the center of economic activities in Mindanao. The province takes pride in its transportation advancements with an international airport and modern seaport that cater to nearby provinces and neighboring countries.

From great diving escapes or a simple historical tour, the province has more than just one way of entertaining tourists. Its long bond with history makes it one of the most informational city tours in the country.

But more than just an educational destination, foreign tourists mainly go to Zamboanga for the numerous diving sites scattered along its coast. There are exactly 28 small islands along the province’s coast. The most prominent dive site in the province is the Santa Cruz Island which is famous for its colorful fish and corals.

Fast facts:
Local Dialect: ZambuangeƱo Chavakano,

Festivals:
Dia de Zamboanga – A commemorative celebration of President Quezon’s declaration of the province as a chartered city. Considered as Zamboanga’s foundation day, the festivity is celebrated on the 26th of February.

What to see:
Fort Pilar –created in the early 1600s, the place originally served as a garrison during the Spanish era but has now evolved into a museum and a shrine in honor of Our Lady of the Pillar, the Patron Saint of Zamboanga City.

Sta. Cruz Island – known for its pink white sand and the powdery white beach.

Dakak – One of the most famous beach resorts in the province and considered to be the best beach in Zamboanga.

Sinilog Island – One of the most admired destinations in the province and slowly emerging as one of the best dive sites in the country.

Pasonaca Park – Over a century old but continues to be one of the most visited parks in the province for its colorful flowers and plants.

Serenity Falls –A scenic falls located between Pamucutan and La Paz

Cawa Cawa Boulevard – the province’s own take on a relaxing view of sunset along the street.

How to get there:
Zamboanga’s port has a scheduled passenger trip Cotabato, Dipolog/Dapitan, General Santos, Pagadian, Jolo, Bongao, Isabela, Cebu, Dumaguete, Iloilo, Bacolod, Manila as well as neighboring countries. There are also direct flights to Zamboanga via major airlines from Manila.

where to run

bitten by the running bug? some suggestions on where to run in the metro.

1) bonifacio high street
this is my default running venue. i usually run around the 1.2 km outer ring of bonifacio high street. and i suggest you do it late at night or really early in the morning because it can get crowded.

2) mckinley hill
if you want a challenging route, try mckinley hill. the downhill and uphill parts can be a pain. i don't mind it though. like they say, no pain no gain.

3) ayala triangle gardens
this is my fav lately... it's not just the closest from my apartment, the xmas lights and decors are beautiful. i get senti and teary-eyed sometimes by just looking at them. haha. boo.

4) ateneo de manila
i like running in ateneo because of the towering trees and lush greenery. it's a completely different experience compared to running at the fort or around makati cbd.

5) up sunken garden oval
the up sunken garden oval is around 2.2 km and has one lane dedicated for bikers and runners. and i've heard that the whole road is closed to motorized vehicles on sundays. 20 sticks of pork or chicken isaw after a 10K run is enough motivation.

song of the week - can i

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFRW50zU7xY

CAN I?
(from Imago's latest album — Effect Desired None)

I'll fix my bed
I'll put the toothpaste cap back on
I'll clear the plates
I'll sleep before dawn
No more hours of TV
I can read some more
I'll never leave the light on
I'll draw the curtains
Then I'll lock the doors

Been putting things of
Like this guilty prayer
That I've been hiding from you Lord
I'm gonna say it Lord
I'm gonna brave it

Can I ask him from you?
Oh I'd be the happiest thing
This was plan A to begin with
Can I ask him from you?
Oh I'd be the craziest doll
With the second greatest gift of all

I'll put my shoes, in the right box
I'll learn to cook too I'll even do some laundry
I don't want to, but I could iron too
I'll practice guitar
I'll be smart with money
Though I'm always good with cars
I'll remember to budget my shopping hours

Been putting things of
Like this guilty prayer
That I've been hiding from you
Lord I'm gonna say it Lord
I'm gonna brave it

Can I ask him from you?
Oh I'd be the happiest thing
This was plan A to begin with
Can I ask him from you?
Oh I'd be the craziest doll
With the second greatest gift of all

If it's Your will,
Lord If it's Your will,
Lord Keep him safe and steady
But please, please make him really love me

If it's Your will,
Lord Only if it's Your will,
Lord Make him Yours and ready
But I've gotta do this
I really gotta ask this

Can I... can I... can I...
Oh can I.... can I have him, Lord?

----------------------------------------------------------------------

my favorite song in the album. also the first opm as my song of the week. hehe.

good job aia. a prayer (even if it's self-serving =) ) is more powerful when it is sang.

san antonio village food trip

tired of the usual makati cbd dining experience? i guess it's about time to explore other options. the first thing that comes to my mind is san antonio village. i've been living in the vicinity for over 7 years now. so if you allow me, let me be your guide. 7 years in the area, i guess, adds to my credibility. haha. one thing for sure though, makati offers a lot of choices for the hungry, even in the outskirts.

1) pat-pat's kansi
kamagong cor. sampaloc st. san antonio village

opened its first manila branch three years ago. pat pat's now has three branches around the metro. pat-pat's famous bulalo is the best i've tried. my other favorite is the crispy tilapia.

2) suzukin
9753 kamagong st. cor. sampaloc St., san antonio village, makati

suzukin is one of the cheapest japanese restaurant around. my personal favorites are the gyudon, sukiyaki, and buttered oysters. quality authentic japanese food can be affortable.

3) 8065 baget
8065 estrella st., san antonio village, makati

this hole in the wall is the primary reason of my impending heart attack. i once ate here 3x in one week. o well. like i always say. we only live once.

bagnet curry, kare-kareng bagnet, and dinuguan bagnet are my recommendations.

4) saguijo cafe bar
7612 guijo st., san antonio village village, makati

good food and music always go along well. saguijo is an ideal hang-out place for music lovers with humongous appetite for scrumptious food and san miguel beer.

5) amber's best
1173 chino roces avenue pasong tamo, san antonio village, makati

who doesn't know amber? if you answer yes, where were you all this time?

amber offers simple food that never fails to impress. my favs are the pancit, pichi-pichi, pork bbq, lumpiang shanghai, and fresh lumpiang ubod.

i hope this list convinced you to explore the outskirts of makati in search for bargain gastronomic gems.

book 17: the art of travel

if you take travelling seriously, you should read this book by alain de botton. it's a little book that explains a lot of things... "why do we bother? what do we expect, and why are we so often disappointed? and then again, why do our memories of the trip rarely reflect the disappointments? and what is the clue to not being disappointed? how do you go about really experiencing the place where you are and making it part of yourself?"

go read this and get to travel without leaving your couch or bed.

one of the best books i've read this year.

looks like i have a balanced team. this is my first time to join a head-to-head league. so i'm kinda giddy...

let the games begin!

masskara!

what can i say...

my first masskara experience was AWESOME!!!

where to stay?
l fisher - shangri la of bacolod
l fisher chalet - connected to l fisher. my favorite. very good rates!
sugarland - i've heard good reviews. it's not in lacson street where the party is though.
friend's house - everyone has an ilonggo friend. why don't you crash at his/her place? haha.

where to eat?
21 - i've heard the batchoy is really good
chicken house - still the best inasal out there, also order the chicken skin on the side
chicken deli - second to chicken house
trattoria uma - for people looking for a date place in bacolod. go italian!
18th st pala pala seafood grill and restaurant - sizzling squid and baked scallops!
tama plaza - steamed talaba!

where to drink coffee and get dessert?
calea - sugar overload!
l fisher cafe - spanking new, and a strategic place to kill time while waiting for the electric parade
cafe bobs - banana late and grilled ensaymada!
pendys - crappy coffee but half moon, some sort of a custard cake, is a must-try
cafe olio, westown hotel - a quiet relaxing place to hang-out in the plaza vicinity while waiting for the maskarra parade to start

where to drink
21 - ideal place to kick start the night
mushu - republiq of bacolod
pepes - @ sorento complex, the place reminds me of the gimikan in timog
l fisher roofdeck - chillout time!
sibeeria - decades of bacolod, haha
cafe bobs - try bobsbrew! - their local craft beer. i actually took home a six-pack
l fisher lobby - if you just want to relax and enjoy soothing music

where to take pictures (for photography buffs)
balay negrense, silay city - the restored residence of victor fernandez gaston, the father of sugar industry in negros. for 40 pesos, you get to travel back to the 19th century.
the ruins, talisay city - the ruins showcases what is left of the don mariano ledesma lacson ancestral home. best to go there during dusk i think. we went there around lunch time and it was scorching hot.
electric float parade - starts around 7pm at lacson street. check websites for the schedule.
masskara parade - usually around 4pm in the afternoon (saturday and sunday of the masskara weekend). the main reason why i'm in bacolod.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

if you're planning to join the festivities next year, book your flights and hotel reservation as early as april!

happy go lucky people, like me, will find bacolod as a perfect refuge from stressful manila. hope to see you next year!

song of the week - fell in love without you

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3UBtRF1xsA&ob=av3e

fell in love without you
motion city soundtrack

Last night I fell in love without you.
I waved goodbye to that heart of mine
Beating solo on your lawn

Every aching wound will cauterize and bruise
In memory of what we used to call in love
And only time will tell if violins will swell
In memory of what we used to call in love
We use to call it love...

Last night I fell in love without you
The coup de grâce that set me off
Would've made for decent fiction

Every aching wound will cauterize and bruise
In memory of what we used to call in love
And only time will tell if violins will swell
In memory of what we used to call in love
We use to call it...

Last night I fell in love without you
The stars at night aren't as big and bright
As you make them out to be

And every aching wound will cauterize and bruise
In memory of what we used to call in love
And only time will tell if violins will swell
In memory of what we used to call in love
In memory of when we used to call it love

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

discovered this song while watching an episode of gossip girl. haha. the acoustic version is a hundred times better than the original.

road trip

planning for a road trip to the north?

some suggestions where to stop...

1) pampanga
- perfect stopover for lunch or dinner is aling lucing. still the best sisig for me.

2) tarlac
- palaisdaan is also a favorite stopover to fill your tummies up for the long drive ahead

3) vigan
- make sure to try tongson's royal bibingka
- order the bagnet and vigan longganisa at cafe leona. it's also a good idea to grab a bottle of budweiser (the czech beer not the american).
- places to check out: crisologo st, crisologo museum, burgos museum, plaza salcedo, plaza burgos, st paul cathedral, arzobispado

4) ilocos
- don't miss the following: marcos museum at batac, paoay church (also grab a bite at herencia cafe, it's just in front of paoay church), bangui windmills (kang kang cafe offers shelter from the sun, have a cold drink or hot coffee), cape bojeador lighthouse, malacanang of the north, fort ilocandia (lots of stuff to do here - atv, golf, archery, etc)

5) pagudpod
- saud beach, we stayed at terra rika beach and dive resort. we got a beachfront room for just 2500. not bad considering it's air conditioned, with ref, and bathtub!
- blue lagoon (haven't been there but i've heard the beach is better than saud)

still thinking about it???? just gas up and go!!! the long drive is worth it!!!

acc cup 2010 results

we're old. no wins!!! 3 loses!!! skep fc got beaten up by a bunch of 16 year olds. haha.

hopefully, we'll perform better in the next tournament. time to shape up.

futsal fiesta day 2 results

gtu ended the night with 3 draws and 2 loses. final standing is 2 wins, 3 draws, and 3 loses. good enough for 3rd place. next year ulit.

congrats to bocats a. superb goals by mv and jemil in the finals. pang-youtube :)

bonfire!!!

bonfire tonight at 730pm at the grade school open grounds. i've heard parokya ni edgar, chicosci, and sponge cola are performing. again, congrats to the blue eaglets and blue eagles. 4peat tayo next year ha?

i'll drop by later to kill time. arsenal vs chelsea at 11pm!

Friday, October 1, 2010

john mayer live!

i'm not a fan but i'm watching tonight. i respect the guy. he's a great artist. he just talks too much sometimes. hehe.

see you at moa open grounds tonight! rain or shine!

back to back to back

congrats to the blue eagles!!! finally, a rare 3peat!!!

it goes to prove that discipline, team spirit, and big hearts can win championships. you don't need star players. you just need a hell of a solid team.

buenafat... errrr.. buenafe had the biggest game of his collegiate career yesterday. he had 23 points, 6 rebounds, an assist and a steal to lead the blue eagles to a 65-62 win over the tamaraws at the big dome. good job big guy. "overweight but still overly talented." but no more donuts okay? we need you in better shape next year for our quest for 4peat.

let's enjoy the championship for now. third's definitely a charm.

mt. pulag climb

we're climbing mt. pulag on oct 5 (leaving for baguio on the eve of oct 4th).

text me if you want to join. the more the merrier (and cheaper, haha).

acc cup 2010

skep fc still needs a player for the acc cup 2010 this sunday. preferably a defender. we're playing div 3. text me if you're interested.

by the way, we might need two players if i'm still not well by then. i hate being sick.

arsenal-chelsea 10-03-2010

of the big rivalries involving the big 4 teams in england, only the arsenal-chelsea rivalry is one which features two local rivals. so mark your calendars - oct 3, 2010.

i'm still checking if handlebar will be showing the game. if ever, i'll see you there!

game 2 = three-peat

since i'm sick, for the 2nd time in a month, i'm just gonna watch game 2 at home. i better stock up on chips and soda.

good timing huh? i really do need to take care of myself better.

anyway, i think today is the day.

fly high.

song of the week - romeo and juliet

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87cLyBR1JTo

romeo and juliet
the killers (dire straits cover)

A lovestruck Romeo, sings the streets of serenade
Laying everybody low with a love song that he made
Find a streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like, "You and me, babe, how about it?"

Juliet says, "Hey, it's Romeo, you nearly gave me a heart attack"
He's underneath the window, she's singing
Hey, la, my boyfriend's back"
You shouldn't come around here, singing up at people like that
Anyway what you gonna do about it?

Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded in my heart
And I forget, I forget the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

Come up on different streets, they both were streets of shame
Both dirty, both mean, yes and the dream was just the same
And I dream your dream for you and now your dream is real
How can you look at me, as if I was just another one of your deals?

you can fall for chains of silver, you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin
Now you just say, "Oh, Romeo, yeah, you know
I used to have a scene with him"

Juliet, when we made love, you used to cry
I said, "I love you like the stars above, "I love you till I die"
And there's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

I can't do the talk like the talk on the TV
And I can't do a love song like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything but I'd do anything for you
I Can't do anything except be in love with you

And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat, the bad company
And all I do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme
Juliet, I'd do the stars with you any time

Juliet, when we made love, you used to cry
I said, "I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die"
And there's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize, it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

A lovestruck Romeo, he sings the streets of serenade
Laying everybody low with a love song that he made
Find a convenient streetlight, steps out of the shade
He says something like, "You and me, babe, how about it?"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

worthy cover by the killers.

nike or adidas?

In line with its recent ‘New Breed, New Game, New Legacy’ basketball campaign, Nike continues to ignite school spirit with the release of their University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) apparel collection. The collection consists of game jackets, jerseys, shorts and t-shirts as showcased during on and off court performances by the Ateneo Blue Eagles and FEU Tamaraws. Worn by the likes of Blue Eagles Forward Nico Salva and Tamaraw Forward Aldrech Ramos, the replica game jerseys boast of a technical burn-out mesh fabric for increased ventilation and aesthetic. This performance-enhancing technology helps reduce the fabric weight to help the athletes drive their game further without weighing them down.

The UAAP apparel collection is now available in select Nike stores for UAAP fans and basketball enthusiasts alike. The jerseys retail for P1,895, shorts P1,895, the jackets for P3,295 and the fan tees at P1,095.

- from bleachersbrew.blogspot.com

song of the week - animal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gM7Hlg75Mlo

animal
by neon trees

here we go again
i kinda wanna be more then friends
so take it easy on me
i'm afraid you're never satisfied

here we go again,
we're sick like animals we play pretend
you're just a cannibal and i'm afraid i won't get out alive
no i won't sleep tonight

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for
take a bite of my heart tonight

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for, what are you waiting for
take a bite of my heart tonight

here we are again,
i feel the chemicals kicking in
its getting heavy and i want run and hide, i want to run and hide

i do it every time
you're killing me now,
and i won't be denied by you,
the animal inside of you

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for
take a bite of my heart tonight

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for, what are you waiting for
take a bite of my heart tonight

hush hush the world is quiet
hush hush we both can't fight it
its us that made this mess
why can't you understand

oh i won't sleep tonight, i won’t sleep tonight

here we go again (here we go again)

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for
take a bite of my heart tonight

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for, what are you waiting for, what are you waiting

here we go again, oh oh here we go again, oh oh here we go again,
say goodbye to my heart tonight

oh oh i want some more
oh oh what are you waiting for
what are you wait for
say goodbye to my heart tonight

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

extremely addicting song. this would be in my playlist for a long time.

i also suggest you listen to the entire album - habits by the neon trees. good shit!

ramadan movie weekend

the only good thing about being sick on a long weekend is that i can finally catch up on my reading and dvds. three days of being a couch potato is not that bad at all.

some notes on the stuff that i watched over the weekend.

splice - very disturbing but something you should watch. the film is not afraid to make the audience uncomfortable, and is effective by doing so. definitely not you're typical sci fi movie.

last year in marienbad - this french new wave classic (1961) actually reminds me of the inception and also stanley kubrick's the shining. it's a haunting love story that plays on the fallacy of human memory. watch it and let yourself be put into a trance.

the american - don't expect a bourne or a james bond movie. you won't be seeing a lot of explosions, high tech gadgetry, or beautiful cars. what you will see is how good of an actor george clooney is. the film is more of a character study than a spy thriller. movie trailers can really be deceiving. i do highly suggest you guys watch this film though. for some reason, i enjoyed this film more than all of the james bond movies combined.

macgruber - only watch this movie if you don't have any other choice. hmmm, or maybe when your drunk or high.

zodiac - a lot of people find this film boring, and i do understand why. it's a fuckin' two and a half hour epic!!! but if you're patient, you will be rewarded. it's a pretty good detective story. this is a must-see for fans of david fincher.

an education - probably the best film i watched over the weekend. deserving of the oscar nominations.

nip/tuck season 5 - after five seasons, nip/tuck still doesn't bore me. christian troy is still screwed up, and sean is still sean. some things never change.

gossip girl season 2 - although i hate to admit it, i'm a fan of the series. becoz of one word - BLAIR !!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
what a weekend. although i was sick, i think i gained a few pounds. damn you mcdo !!! :)

book 13: the english patient

it's hard not to imagine the film when reading this novel by michael ondaatje. nevertheless, i enjoyed the book. it's poetry in prose.

dlsu or adamson?

touch choice.

ateneo just need to win by 3 against feu later today to snatch the #1 spot.

i'd say, let's go for #1.

i hope to see la salle in the semis.

one big fight.

surfing at zambales

if you're planning to surf at pundakit, zambales. here're some recommended resorts

1) megan's beach resort
http://megansbeachresort.com/

2) canoe beach resort
http://www.freewebs.com/canoeresort/main.html

among the two, i like canoe better coz the resort has a pool. it's a little bit more expensive but i think it's worth it.

if you're a beginner and don't have a surfboard, i suggest you head to crystal beach instead (san narciso, zambales). the facilities and accomodations are bad but they have a surfing school. getting a board and an instructor won't be a problem.

let's all get stoked! zambales is just 3 hours away!

song of the week - your ex-lover is dead

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55FMOJMhV9s

Your Ex-Lover is Dead
Stars

God that was strange to see you again
Introduced by a friend of a friend
Smiled and said 'yes I think we've met before'
In that instant it started to pour,
Captured a taxi despite all the rain
We drove in silence across point champlain
And all of the time you thought I was sad
I was trying to remember your name…

This scar is a fleck on my porcelain skin
Tried to reach deep but you couldn't get in
Now you're outside me
You see all the beauty
Repent all your sin

It's nothing but time and a face that you lose
I chose to feel it and you couldn't choose
I'll write you a postcard
I'll send you the news
From a house down the road from real love…

Live through this, and you won't look back…
Live through this, and you won't look back…
Live through this, and you won't look back…

There's one thing I want to say, so I'll be brave
You were what I wanted
I gave what I gave
I'm not sorry I met you
I'm not sorry it's over
I'm not sorry there's nothing to say

I'm not sorry there's nothing to say...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

it's a song everybody can relate to. meeting an ex, the awkwardness of it... and of things left unsaid.

book 12: office superman

i hate self-help books. i promised myself never to buy one but this is an exemption. office superman was on sale at fully booked, and was written in collaboration with dc comics. that's two valid excuses. hehe. superman fans will surely enjoy this (lots of history and trivias), and corporate slaves like me will get career advice and some valuable insights.

where should our career be headed?

up up and away. haha.

run against time

i was at runnr boni high street last sat afternoon and decided to check out the "run against time" talk sponsored by immuvit. coach bobby del castillo and jim saret were the speakers that day. pretty interesting stuff.

so what did i learn? basically, three things. i need to seriously take on the following

1) lifestyle change,
2) supplements/vitamins,
3) and exercise

sounds simple right??? we'll see. we all want to live until 60 and still be able to lift weights or run a marathon. hehe.

to find out more about this, check out the "run against time" facebook page.

http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Run-Against-Time/134053523304326?ref=ts

one big boring win

one big win. one big boring game though. ateneo, led by kirk long's first half salvo, easily dismantled la salle's defense. i don't even know if we can actually call it defense. ateneo kept on attacking, and la salle failed to respond (which is very unusual). anyway, revenge was served swiftly. the game was over by 3rd quarter (26 point lead!!!). by end of 3rd, i billed out at friday's glorietta, and decided to watch expendables instead, which turned out to be more exciting. haha.

good job boys. kirk long, aka justin bieber, is ateneo's mvp this year.

book 11: truckers

i was really stressed out last month that i decided to read something light. my brain couldn't handle marquez, kafka, or kundera, so i picked up terry pratchett’s truckers. truckers is the author's first venture to the young adults market. and i say it's a successful one. i found it funny, witty, and enthralling - a very enjoyable read. it’s hilarious enough that there’s a sequel and a third book. hopefully I can find them @ fully booked or powerbooks.

my friend, who's a devoted fan of the author, was right. terry prachett’s unique sense of humor is addictive.

dvd recommendentations

if you’re a fan of producer, screenwriter, and director judd apatow, you should get the dvds of the critically acclaimed cult tv series freaks and geeks and undeclared.

freaks and geeks was aired on cable around 1999-2000. the series was short-lived since it was cancelled only after twelve episodes (18 episodes were completed). good reviews i guess is not enough to keep a show going. this comedy-drama series was included by time magazine in their “100 greatest shows of all time” list, and entertainment weekly ranked it as the 13th best series of the past 25 years.

undeclared came up around 2001-2002. it suffered the same fate of freaks and geeks. the show was cancelled only after one season. like freaks and geeks, it also developed a huge cult following.

both shows, produced by the talented judd apatow, are hilarious. but if i have to choose one, i pick freaks over undeclared. my infatuation for lindsay weir (linda cardellini) is one of the reasons. she’s a personification that geeky girls can be hot. i wonder why her career never took off.

with the cancellations of freaks and undeclared, and i would also like to add my beloved arrested development, i arrive with a conclusion that critical acclaim can be a kiss of death. it can be a ominous sign that the show will not make money, and be ignored by most.

run for a cause!

timing is everything?

"The great love of my life marries today and I am not the groom. I had my chance, a few years ago, but did not realize until too late how fleeting my moment with her was meant to be. Whether it was my fault or hers, and, let's face it, it was probably mine, I will wonder always about the life I might have had with the most loving and loveable woman I have ever known. Sometimes, I finally now understand, love, even crazy love, is not enough. Sometimes, as the romance novelists know, timing is everything."

spinning top

inception got a lot of people talking - especially about the ending. there are a bunch of theories being thrown around the web about it. was cobb still in a dream or was he re-united with his children in the real world? will the spinning top keep spinning, or was it about to fall over? honestly, only christopher nolan will be able to answer these questions. but i don't think he will. the ambiguity of the ending is with purpose.

a pessimist would say that cobb is still in a dream, forever stuck in limbo. an optimist would think otherwise. but does it really matter? when you're in a dream, you think it's real. everything feels real even though some things are not right. you can fly, you're long time crush finally likes you, you're a billionaire with super powers, an aswang is after your heart, your pet dog can talk, and other stuff. it's so real that some unlucky people don't even get to wake up. you've heard of bangungunot right? kidding. i'm starting to talk nonsense here.

going back to our discussion... cobb is with his kids again, and is happy. he thinks it's reality. so what if he's still actually dreaming!!! perception is reality. how you choose to perceive things is how they come across to you.

reality is overrated.

true or false?

“Ang manok na nakatali ay mas madaling hulihin.”

my answer? it's somewhat true.

all relationships have weaknesses... achilles heel, a chink in the armor, kryptonite... call it whatever you want. all you have to do is to find that weakness and exploit it.

most human beings are weak. and that includes me.

have a nice sunday weaklings! haha.

big win c/o the big 3

ateneo's big three, salamat, long, and salva, scored 53 points out of the team's 82 point output against the hapless bulldogs. fresh from their loss against arch-rival la salle, ateneo started slow even allowing the bulldogs to lead as much as 14 points. everything changed when ateneo began to clamp down on defense and started hitting their shots from the perimeter. it's salamat's best game of the season with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists, and 3 steals. long scored his season-high with 19, and was perfect from beyond the arc (4 out of 4). with this important win, the defending champs improved to 3-2. we're back on track!

i watched the game at araneta with my dad and sis. we celebrated the feast of st. ignatius with a win!

happy feast day!

the amats project

BAT DI KO NAISIP TO?

brilliant idea for a website.

the amats project is an effort to go around the philippines in search for the bst (and worst) places to get drunk. there isn't a beerhouse too shady, club too exclusive or music too loud to keep us from finding the perfect location. more than just the alcohol, the food, the crowd, and the music, TAP is about the experience.

chi running

i attended a seminar on chi running three months ago, and i did find it very interesting. i'm planning to enroll one of these days.

"ChiRunning combines the inner focus and flow of T'ai Chi with the power and energy of running to create a revolutionary running form and philosophy that takes the pounding, pain, and potential damage out of the sport of running. The ChiRunning program increases mental clarity and focus, enhances the joy of running, and turns running into a safe and effective lifelong program for health, fitness, and well-being."

uaap season 73! where amazing happens. =p

one big loss

it was a difficult loss. we were up 9 points halfway in the fourth quarter and we blew it. crucial turnovers, bad shot selection, and lousy defense. anyway, i would rather lose early in the season than down the stretch. i just hope the team learned a lot from this game. focus focus focus. most games are decided on how well the team performs in the last five minutes. mental toughness is always a key factor.

we're currently 2-2, and we still have 10 more games to go. the future still looks alright. no need to press the panic button and start the blaming game.

win or lose it's the school we choose.

it was my little sister's first admu vs dlsu live game. she was kinda sad at the result. i told her not to be too disappointed. babawi tayo.

song of the week: the crane wife 3

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmhVY2PLc-c&feature=related

the crane wife 3
the decemberist

And under the boughs unbowed
All clothed in the snowy shroud
She had no heart so hardened
All under the boughs unbowed

Each feather, it fell from skin
'Til thread bare while she grew thin
How were my eyes so blinded?
Each feather, it fell from skin

And I will hang my head
Hang my head low
And I will hang my head
Hang my head low

A gray sky, a bitter sting
A rain cloud, a crane on wing
All out beyond horizon
A gray sky, a bitter sting

And I will hang my head
Hang my head low
And I will hang my head
Hang my head low

And I will hang my head
Hang my head low
And I will hang my head
Hang my head low

And I will hang my head
Hang my head low
And I will hang my head
Hang my head low, low, low

--------------------------------------------------------------------

the song is based on the japanese fable, the crane wife. listen closely to the catchy melody, fine instrumentation, haunting base line, and sad lyrics. this song about remorse is a delight to the ears. what irony.

6th cinemalaya - quick notes

i only got to watch two films. a very busy week - client presentations and interviews, plus i'm still adjusting to the graveyard shift. o well. i hope to see some of the films at robinson's indie sine.

quick reviews.

rekrut - i agree with philbert ortiz's (clickthecity.com) review of this film. it started out really promising. however, everything falls apart in the middle. the film is characterized by repetition and the characters are underdeveloped. the script could use a bit of tightening. also, i noticed that slow motion was kinda abused. a number of scenes could have worked without it.

sigwa - i like the film but i think it's a bit too melodramatic. the script is also overwritten. some dialogues could have worked without much drama, political cliches, and jargons. despite the flaws, it is still worth watching - especially for people who grew up during the marcos era. good effort by joel lamangan.

i'm impressed to see big name stars take part in this indie project. hopefully these names can lure people to try out alternative cinema.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

congrats zurich! pakain ka naman. halaw won best film award in the new breed full length feature category. i hope to get to see the film soon.

hard-wired

shocking. some people are just genetically mean. “it is because everyday character traits, like all human behavior, have hard-wired and genetic components that cannot be molded entirely by the best environment, let alone the best psychotherapists.” so basically, parents have limited power to influence their children. that’s really sad. we are who we are because of our biological makeup, and not because of how we were brought up. nature always trumps nurture huh. hmmm. i should forgive the kids who bullied me back in grade school then... wherever there are, the slums, prison or drug rehab maybe...

anyway, i’d still like to think that i am who i am today because of my wonderful parents. if only i can be half the person my dad is, i am happy to die now and go to heaven.

i’m starting to like being on night shit... errr night shift. i try to fight boredom reading articles of substance on nytimes.com. naks. (just becoz the porn sites are blocked. kidding =p).

world cup 2010 notes - the finals

viva paul the octopus !!!

it's spain's destiny to win the world cup !!! iniesta will definitely get laid every night for the rest of his life. lucky bastard. haha.

we made the right choice in watching the finals at sofitel. the entire place was dressed up for the wc - the giant lcd screens, flags all over the place, the entire staff clad in team jerseys, foosball tables, etc. a giant zakumi the leopard, official mascot of the 2010 fifa wc, as well as the adidas jabulani- official matchball of the competition - were also on display. it was fiesta all night long.

31 days is finally over. i better catch up on sleep or else i might just drop dead.

this world cup is the most memorable for me... looking forward to 2014. brazil here i come.

world cup 2010 notes - battle for 3rd

- forlan was outstanding! the goal makes him one of the leading contenders for the golden ball and golden boot award.

- i like germany but i was hoping that the final free-kick taken by forlan would go in. and it almost did. it would have been, as barney would say it, LEGEND-ARY !!!

- the battle for 3rd is usually action-packed coz the players go in and try to have fun. they are willing to take more risks and attack aggressively. in the finals, it's different. there's so much at stake. players tend to play conservatively. congrats to the germans. these kids will be a force to reckon with on 2014.

- it was a great game. one of the best games of the tournament. worth the trip to ortigas.

Saturday, July 10, 2010

world cup 2010 notes - semi-finals

more wc posts. didn't realize that i didn't publish them until today

- the oranje has gone into this match on a record 24-match unbeaten streak, and they showed us why they are winning with a beautiful attacking game against uruguay last tuesday night.

- puyol's 74th-minute header will forever be remembered, especially by the germans. hehe.

- it's mcdo vs jollibee, red vs orange, adidas vs nike in the finals !!!

- i'm officially a vampire. time to sleep. the sun is rising. haha.

world cup 2010 notes - quarter-finals

- suarez's handball denied ghana of its first semi-finals appearance. i personally think that suarez deserves more than a one match ban. he should not be allowed to play for the rest of the tournament.

- what a shocker!!! brazil is out of the tournament. thanks to wesley sneijder's header with 22 minutes remaining. felipe melo's dismissal started brazil's meltdown. i think that a lot of people would like to kill him in sau paolo.

- germany booked a semi-final spot in spectacular style, demolishing argentina with four goals at cape town's green point stadium.

- a lone second-half strike from david villa brings spain to its first semi-finals appearance. david villa is now the leading contender for the adidas golden boot award with five goals. he is on the roll.

- from panda to a zombie, i need sleep... haha.

world cup 2010 notes - round of 16

...forgot to post this

- suarez's curling shot brings uruguay to the quarter finals. one of the best goals of the tournament so far. bye bye korea.

- as predicted, usa ran out of luck. ghana, the youngest team of the tournament, delivered when it matters most.

- nederlands, as expected, will move on to the quarter finals. brazil, be afraid. the oranje is on a winning streak!

- brazil comfortably ousted chile. brilliant display of skills. but i still think that they should have included ronaldinho in the wc line-up. he had a decent season at ac milan.

- controversial goal by tevez. convincing win against mexico though. argentina is poised to take on germany in the quarter-finals.

- paraguay played tough defense as expected. good thing villa can always be counted on.

- i already look like a panda. sleepless nights.

song of the week - is there a ghost

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JK716RqoUms&feature=channel

"Is There A Ghost"
by Band of Horses

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
I could sleep
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
When I lived alone
Is there a ghost in my house?
My house...

infectious melody... hypnotic lyrics and vocals. this may be a really simple song but it resonates so many things.

we are all haunted, in one way or another.

btw, i have a big crush on the girl in the video. she might be my soulmate. haha.

england is out

great game by germany. the 4-1 win is a clear indication who's the better team.

hmmm. actually it should be 4-2.

after this world cup, the clamor for instant replay will only grow louder.

the offside by tevez and lampard's goal should have been called. the string of missed calls is an embarrassment to fifa. something has to be done.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

we had a great time at harem's jazz. england supporters outnumbered the germans four is to one. this only means that many of us went home brokenhearted.

congrats to the german team. they are worthy to be called the new golden generation. the team of the future turns out to be the team of the moment.

world cup 2010 notes - 2nd week

- defoe's goal saved england from being eliminated. england is slowly starting to show what made them a formidable team in the qualifiers. rooney is still goal less. but i think it's just a matter of time.

- the usa team is very lucky. tsamba. they will soon run out of magical moments. you can't win the world cup on luck alone.

- brazil vs portugal turned out to be a bore. i expected it though when i found out that kaka and robinho won't be playing.

- spain is back on track! the 2 - 1 win over chile catapulted spain into the #1 spot which means they will avoid brazil (thank god) in the round of 16. yey!

- barcino and nuvo at gb2 are also showing the world cup games. (expensive night for me!!! watched the brazil vs portugal game at barcino then moved to nuvo for the next two matches) the more choices we have, the better. looks like we filipinos are starting to appreciate the beautiful game.

song of the week - runaway

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjskJAKeJdM&feature=channel

Runaway
The National

There's no saving anything
Now we're swallowing the shine of the sun
There's no saving anything
How we swallow the sun

But I won't be no runaway
'Cause I won't run
No, I won't be no runaway

What makes you think I'm enjoying being led to the flood?
We've got another thing coming undone
And it's taking us over

We don't bleed when we don't fight
Go ahead, go ahead, throw your arms in the air tonight
We don't bleed when we don't fight
Go ahead, go ahead, lose our shirts in the fire tonight

What makes you think I'm enjoying being led to the flood?
We got another thing coming undone

But I won't be no runaway
'Cause I won't run
No, I won't be no runaway
'Cause I won't run
No, I won't be no runaway

What makes you think I'm enjoying being led to the flood?
We've got another thing coming undone
And it's taking us over

We don't bleed when we don't fight
Go ahead, go ahead, throw your arms in the air tonight
We don't bleed when we don't fight
Go ahead, go ahead, lose our shirts in the fire tonight

But what makes you think I'm enjoying being led to the flood?
We got another thing coming undone
We got another thing coming undone
And it's taking forever

I'll go braving everything
With you swallowing the shine of the sun
I'll go braving everything
Through the shine of the sun

But I won't be no runaway
'Cause I won't run
No, I won't be no runaway
'Cause I won't run
No, I won't be no runaway

What makes you think I'm enjoying being led to the flood?
We've got another thing coming undone
And it's taking us over

We don't bleed when we don't fight
Go ahead, go ahead, throw your arms in the air tonight
We don't bleed when we don't fight
Go ahead, go ahead, lose our shirts in the fire tonight

But what makes you think I'm enjoying being led to the flood?
We got another thing coming undone
We got another thing coming undone
And it's taking forever

england wins

england finally comes up with a much-needed victory !!! good job. but they need to level up their game on sunday against the very disciplined german team. rooney, wake up!!! england needs you badly.

the world cup is bad for my liver. hmmm. i wonder if liveraide actually works.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
if you're staying or working in the ortigas area, i suggest you watch the games at harem's jazz. it's at the home depot centre, julia vargas st., just infront of buffalo wings n' things. no posers. fun crowd.

adobo and football

quick notes on last night's football escapade

- portugal's massacre of north korea was painful to watch. o well. i'm still impressed with the koreans. for a team with little international exposure and with only three players on the squad play professionally outside of north korea (two in japan and one in russia), they surprised everyone when they qualified for the world cup. and with brazil, portugal, and ivory coast in their group, no one really expects them to salvage a win (or even a goal). but i like seeing them play. you see a lot of heart that's lacking in a quite number of more talent laden teams.

- the attack-minded chileans proved to be the better team with a late goal against the 10-man swiss army. chile now leads the group with 6 points. the game against spain this friday is crucial. the match will determine if spain gets to move to the next round.

- spain finally found their form. villa's double was good enough. i agree with some analysts though that spain sometimes passes too much, even when a shooting oppurtunity is at hand. they could have doubled the goals.

- i discovered that the pinoy adobo at fridays is really good. try it and let me know if you agree.

- the world cup is slowly burning a hole in my wallet. it has taken over my life as i know it. haha.

world cup 2010 notes - first week

- 1st week of world cup is full of upsets. we saw england, spain, france, and even germany fall. the ball is round indeed.

- argentina is the new brazil. messi is playing beautiful football. whenever we has the ball, there's a sense of anticipation as to what he will do. he can pass, shoot, or speed up. he is the best player in the world right now and he's only 23. he could be the best player ever. he has this world cup as his stage (and i'm guessing two more).

- north korea is fun to watch. i'm definitely gonna watch portugal vs north korea match tomorrow night. i have reservations at friday boni high street already. text me.

- some people are already speculating that it will be a brazil-netherlands finals. hmmm. i dont want that to happen. i like spain to be there. the barca boys should step up and get the job done.

- if ur planning to watch a game at nsg, be there at least an one hour before. the place can get really crowded. we were there for the argentia-south korea match last thursday. we got really good seats coz i was there by 6pm. the early bird catches the worm!!!

- if you're in the libis area, try watching the game at gweilos eastwood. they show the 230am games. we were there for the england-algeria match last saturday. good crowd.

- 31 days of sleepless nights. red bull is my new best friend.
